Dr. Eric T. Baumgartner
Dean of the T. J. Smull College of Engineering at Ohio Northern University
Prior to joining ONU, Dr.Baumgartner spent 10 years at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, where he held a number of technical and management positions including a leadership role on the Mars Exploration Rover project that successfully launched, landed and operated the Spirit and Opportunity rovers on the Martian surface. Dr. Baumgartner was honored with the NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal in 2004 for his efforts on the Mars rover project and, in May 2008, Dr. Baumgartner, along with two of his colleagues at JPL, was presented with the 2008 IEEE Robotics and Automation Award. Dr. Baumgartner earned his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Notre Dame.
The Honorable David J. Berger
Mayor of the City of Lima
Dave, a native of Mansfield, Ohio, moved to Lima in 1977 to become the Executive Director of Rehab Project, which renovated several hundred houses. He worked in that position until August 31, 1989 when he resigned to campaign in the City of Lima’s General Election for the position of Mayor. The Berger Administration has a highly successful track record of creating positive community change. Dave was re-elected in the November 3, 2013 general election to an unprecedented 7th four year term as Lima’s Mayor. Dave has a B.A. and M.A. in Philosophy from the Catholic University of America, and a Certificate in Community Economic Development from the Development Training Institute of Baltimore, Maryland.
Patrick M. Conrath
Director of Operations for the Lima Refining Company and Current OEAMC Board Chair
The Lima Refining Company is owned by Husky Energy which is one of Canada’s largest integrated energy companies. Husky is headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, and is publicly traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbols HSE and HSE.PR.A. The Lima refinery was acquired by Husky in 2007. Prior to joining Husky in 2011, Pat spent twenty years in the chemical industry, working in a variety of technical, commercial, and managerial roles. Pat has a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Chicago.
Judith M. Cowan
President of the Ohio Energy and Advanced Manufacturing Center, Inc. Judy is currently the President and CEO of The Ohio Energy & Advanced Manufacturing Center in Lima, Ohio. Before that Judy was on the staff of three Ohio Governors – George Voinovich, Bob Taft and Ted Strickland – where she was responsible for the economic development activities for West Central Ohio. Previously she had served as the Vice President of The Bank of Leipsic and Mayor of the Village of Leipsic and President of the Putnam County CIC. She is the formerly the Board Chair for the Lima / Allen County Chamber of Commerce and Vice President of Spherion Corp. where she remains a member of the Board of Directors.
General Dynamics Land Systems Certified Project Manager and current OEAMC Board Vice Chair
Denis, a U.S. Army Veteran joined General Dynamics Land Systems in 1984. Denis began as a Welding Supervisor and quickly moved through the ranks of leadership. During his tenure at GDLS, he managed Hourly Production, Trades and Salaried Engineers. Denis served as a hands-on leader as new manufacturing technologies and teaming arrangements were implemented. As Program Manager for the USMC’s Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle, Denis oversaw a $122M budget for the design / build of tooling and equipment; and the fabrication, machining, painting, assembly and testing of 22 amphibious vehicles. Denis is a Certified Manager, meeting the rigorous requirements of the Institute of Professional Managers. He is a recipient of the Silver Knight of Management Award, presented by the National Management Association and demonstrating his commitment for his Community through Volunteerism, was a 2014 Jefferson Award for Public Service winner.
Stephen C. Hatkevich
Director of R & D at American Trim LLC
Steve joined American Trim in 1990 as a project engineer in charge of advancing American Trim’s technologies in the coating and decorating. Under Steve’s leadership, American Trim is actively working on advancing the company’s research efforts in the forming, coating, and finishing of metal and composite structures. Steve has also directed American Trim’s participation in five Ohio Third Frontier projects that included developing a new coating processes to advance the manufacturing processes required for the fuel cell market. Steve is a graduate of Indiana University with a degree in Chemistry.
Adrian D. Price
Director of Powertrain Manufacturing Engineering The Ford Motor Company
Adrian serves as a part of the Manufacturing Global Leadership team at Ford. He moved into this role in 2016 after serving as Director of the Manufacturing Business Office. Prior to that he ran the Global Ford Production System Office and was previously the Plant Manager of the Lima Engine Plant where he ran the plant for four years, having moved there from Cleveland. His career at Ford Motor Company started in September of 1988 at the Dagenham Engine Plant in the United Kingdom. He has worked at Plants in the UK, US, and Germany and lived in Spain for 1.5 years during the installation of a new plant in Valencia, Spain. He has spent many years in various global positions within Manufacturing Engineering organizations as well as his operations experience. Adrian has a Bachelor’s degree (Hons) in Electronics Engineering from the University of Kent at Canterbury and a Masters in Advanced Automotive Engineering from Loughborough University in the United Kingdom.
Jeffrey E. Sprague
President of the Allen Economic Development Group and Current OEAMC Secretary / Treasurer
Jeff has been a part of the Allen County economic development landscape in a variety of rolls since 1988. He is currently the President and CEO of the lead economic development organization for the county, the Allen Economic Development Group. His responsibilities include developing and implementing the organization’s strategic plan, supporting existing businesses and attracting new businesses to the community, advocating for public policies that support economic growth for the county and the region and managing all revenues and expenditures for the organization.
OEAMC Technology Director
Larry comes to the OEAMC with over thirty years of experience in advanced manufacturing engineering and management. He is a graduate of The University of Toledo School of Engineering with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Larry’s industrial experience includes plant management, major industrial project management, and advanced manufacturing engineering. He has worked extensively in research and development and advanced manufacturing engineering in the automotive and appliance industries.
His experience, expertise, and broad knowledge base make him uniquely qualified for his role with the OEAMC. He has worked in the field of high velocity metal forming (HVMF) for ten years and is named on at least one patent in this field of study. He co-authored several papers related to HVMF and is part of an extensive global network of scientists and engineers that specifically study HVMF.
